THE STORY:
The setting: King Franz, surrounded by a selected audience, is sitting
in the grandstand of his "lions' garden", eagerly awaiting the beginning
of the fight...
And soon roaring leopards, lions and tigers are all over the
arena and chase each other.
Suddenly, in a moment of distraction, Miss Kunigunde dropped her glove right
between these hungry cats. Still, the arrogant lady took this as a welcome
opportunity to test her sweetheart knight. To prove his love for her, he was
to jump into the proverbial lions' den and bring back her glove....
This first
volume of the new series "Poetry for Children",
edited by Sacha N. Simon, provides an unforgettable piece of German poetry
- it's funny, exciting and even instructive. And Jackie Gleich's lively illustrations
stimulate the fantasy.
THE AUTHOR:
Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805) was one of Germany´s
greatest playwrights. However, originally, Schiller wanted to become vicar
but was made to study
law and medicine instead. His life as a free author was full of depriviations,
which caused him serious health problems. During the last years of his life
he was greatly inspired by his friendship with Goethe. With freedom being the
main motive in his writings, it was Goethe who suggested Tell`s story to his
friend. Schiller handled the saga brillantly and today his Tell is still played
successfully, both on stage and on screen.
THE ARTIST:
Jacky Gleich, born 1964 in Darmstadt grew up near Berlin. She has studied
animations at the Movie Academy in Babelsberg. Jacky Gleich has illustrated
over 30
books for children and adults and received numerous awards, such as the „Deutschen
Jugendliteraturpreis 1998“. Today, the artist is living with her huge
